This article is about Andy McQueen Outer Banks.

Andy McQueen stars in Netflix's Outer Banks.

He is Guyanese and was born in Canada. His ancestors were brought to Guyana from India.

When asked what advice he had for young Guyanese looking to follow a similar path, he responded:

Keep going. Even if they tell you, you can’t do it. Keep going. When I was young people would tell me all I would ever play was a taxi driver or an Imam. So why bother? But that’s other people and that comes from a place of fear and needing to be secure. I understand that as well, but all I ever wanted to be was an actor. And I’ve been committed to that ever since.

Guyana, officially the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, is a country located on the northern coast of South America. It has a land area of roughly 214,969 square kilometres and is the only English-speaking nation in the region. Its nearby neighbors are Suriname to the east, Brazil to the south, Venezuela to the west and French Guiana to the north.

Guyana has been inhabited by indigenous people since prehistoric times, although evidence suggests that it was under some form of Arawak influence by 1000 AD. It was colonized by several European countries, with Britain being the longest colonizer. Guyana gained independence in 1966. Throughout its history Guyana has faced many struggles - from political disturbances to economic recessions. Despite these setbacks though, Guyana continues to stand strong as one of South America’s most unique countries - with stunning landscapes and diverse cultures being just a few of its many wonders. Andy McQueen's Indian History

Andy McQueen is lucky to know which ships some of his Indian ancestors travelled on from India to Guyana.

His aunt was able to trace this history in great detail.

The rest of the diaspora should also be given this opportunity. However, the ship records and related records are deteriorating.

We have started a Petition for the local Caribbean governments and the UK to properly store and digitize these records so that we can all access it online for free.

Please support our cause by signing the Petition.
